James calls North Vancouver his home and has done so for 23 years. For 19 of those years, James has worked incredibly hard to become one of Canada’s premier BMX riders. His love of this action sport is readily recognizable when talks about it…the passion is real. James began volunteering at the Park Gate Youth Centre where he and his family lived and he ‘carved his teeth’ as a rider.
Spending his Friday and Saturday nights helping and entertaining the kids led to his being recognized for his volunteer efforts by the Youth Centre at Park Gate and furthermore, the Mayor of North Vancouver. This inspired James to do more and expand his ‘giving back’ to the community that supported him for so many years in his youth. This devotion to community and youth as well as his love of North Vancouver triggered the beginning of James Hummell Bike Leadership…the first of its kind: BMX riding school in North Van! Now James is able to impart his expert knowledge of the sport with youth and at the same time, sharing his contagious passion for it! At home on the Vertical, the flatlands and the trails: James has it down and perfected what we know today as freestyle riding. James is right at home when in the company of students eager to capture the secrets of self-discipline and keys to confident trick riding.
Jayden Sundar Program Assistant
While Jayden may only be 8 years of age he possesses the sensibility and disposition of a college freshman. This of course is attributed to his parents Jason and Tina whom have always instilled that respect for others, the desire to learn and importance of community are what shape us for the future.
Jayden is the Program Assistant and his pedigree comes from the expert- one on one, schooling in BMX he received from James. Jayden plays an important role in this Company as he has 'ridden the course' (so to speak), and this sees him positioned perfectly for assisting the students assigned to James.
Jayden spends much of his time doing what most 8 year olds do and much, much more!..he is passionate about bmx, skateboarding, scooters and just about any outdoor action sport you can think of. He also acts as role model to his younger brother Austin, who is up and coming in the ranks of the Skate Park atmosphere and activities.
They enjoy and share in a wonderful family unit Jayden's younger brother Austin is poised to take the skate park bowl very soon as well. . Jayden's ambition and drive is unstoppable and all the days spent at the skate park right across the street from home, have paid off...he's found his niche!

Jess Reed Instructor
Jess has proudly called Vancouver his home since 1996. Born in Hamilton, Ontario He began riding BMX at the age of 8 years and has not stopped yet. Jess brings a mature, seasoned approach to the JHBL team and completes the instructor roster well. James actually learned a great deal from Jess in his early years as he honed his flipping skills with tips from Jess. It’s a real pleasure to have Jess on as part of the JHBL family! Jess was involved in the ICBC Bicycle Safety program in 1999. In addition, he has promoted biking contests (one per year for 4 years), throughout the Lower Mainland involving all age groups. These included the very successful: Westcliffe Mall Youth Day and the East Coast Family Day.

Tina Lieberman Operations Manager
Being a mother of two very active boys and always on the lookout for exciting ways to entertain them, Tina recognizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early pro-active community involvement. Tina is a firm believer in championing youth and their individual strengths.…allowing them to grow and evolve with an appreciation for others and love of whatever they choose to do.
Tina’s eldest son Jayden (JHBL Program Assistant) was taught early by James Hummell (who just happens to be Tina’s Brother), and this cultivated two things: Jayden’s growth in riding and the strengthening of James’s instructional abilities. Tina watched as James imparted his love of BMX and instilled etiquette and humility in Jayden…the things that are cornerstone in James’s instructional technique today as well as a parents greatest wish. The constant time spent at the bowl and experiencing the other kids literally ‘lined up’ to watch James in action and the pride that they all felt was actually the beginning of something wonderful they didn’t realize at first. It was at the side of the bowl when Tina envisioned a day camp / bike club of sorts wherein they could offer the same gift her son received for others lined up eagerly all those days. You can say that it has been a family project, destined to burgeon into what it has become – JHBL! .
